Calm Haven Mental Health

January Schreiner
Are you or your child feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, identity questions, relationship struggles, or major life changes?

I provide affirming telehealth therapy for adolescents and adults navigating trauma, identity, relationships, anxiety, and life transitions throughout the state of Texas. As an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist, I strive to create a space where transgender, gender-diverse, questioning, and LGBTQ+ clients feel safe, respected, and understood. Whatever brings you to therapy, I will tailor our work together to your unique strengths, personality, developmental stage, and goals.

My Approach

I believe every person is unique, so I balance evidence-based therapy with flexibility rather than following a script. My approach draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy. When appropriate, I also incorporate digital sand tray and other expressive techniques to help clients process emotions, strengthen relationships, and gain new insight.

My Experience

I’m family-oriented and have loved ones all over the country, so I enjoy traveling to spend time with them whenever I get the chance. I also love thrifting, fashion, and finding reasons to laugh. I believe humor has an important place in therapy and that healing doesn’t always have to feel heavy.

My experience in hospice, crisis intervention, and correctional mental health has shaped my compassionate, grounded approach to therapy. I’ve had the privilege of working with people from many walks of life and at many different life stages, and I feel honored to walk alongside each person’s unique journey.

About Me

As a transgender woman, I’ve personally experienced how complicated identity, change, and major life transitions can be. That experience reinforced something I already believed: no two people take exactly the same path. As a therapist, I don’t believe in putting people in boxes or assuming I know what someone else’s journey should look like. My role isn’t to tell you who to be—it’s to help you better understand yourself, strengthen your relationships, and encourage personal growth.

I offer evening sessions and am available for free 15-minute consultations. I would be pleased to meet you!
